Beyond a Steel Sky just received a new trailer that shows off some very interesting story beats. It’s a soft reboot to the 1994 point-and-click cyberpunk adventure Beneath a Steel Sky because the creative team thought the original was too old for people to remember or relate to. The game was known for its excellent storytelling, odd characters and dystopian society. This, along with Oceanhorn 2 are the two games that are going to get me to cave to Apple Arcade soon.
In the trailer, we see the protagonist returning home to Union City where it seems the soldiers or ‘demons’ who abducted him as a child from his village in ‘The Gap” were sent from. The Gap seems to be a place outside of the city where the poor live and are terrorized by sand storms, scavenger birds and mechanical android wolf creatures among other things. I definitely get an ‘us versus them’ vibe inside of the city where the eccentric characters are happy-go-lucky until you cross them. The guy in purple suit gives me a bad feeling like Jafar from Aladdin or something and the rotund, jolly fellow seems a bit coo coo.
Beyond a Steel Sky also received a gameplay trailer last year as seen below. It will be directed by Charles Cecil, the same creative genius who was in charge of the original. Not to mention he also directed the Broken Sword games that were remade for Android years ago. This makes me personally very excited to see how intricate the story will be for this new version of the game. Here’s to hoping we see other classics remade in 3D like Broken Sword, the Monkey Island series, The Silent Age, Simon the Sorcerer and more.
There has been no mention of the game coming to Google Play as Apple Arcade is a special platform that allows console quality games to stand out in a mobile marketplace and be priced as such as well. Are you excited for Beyond a Steel Sky? Let us know in the comment section below!
