While Apex Legends just started season 5, Nintendo Switch owners sat out in the cold wishing they could play. That is until the Summer Games Fest came around this week. Hosted by the Ryan Seacrest of the gaming industry, Geoff Keighley, Respawn Entertainment dropped a trailer showing off the new season and some surprising news – Apex Legends is being released on the Switch and will have cross play enabled with Xbox One, PS4, and EA Origin! This means that Switch owners can play with their friends despite their console choice.
The Lost Treasures Collection Event for the game features some gold-themed skins for the characters and a Mobile Respawn Beacon which will appear in player’s inventories at the beginning of each match. The beacon will appear for the duration of the event and will allow players to respawn anywhere they’d like to after dying so long as their teammates place one first.
There seems to be some sort of story focus on one specific character, Crypto, who is a hacker and drone expert, so we’ll be interested to see what that’s about when we pick the game up on Switch in the fall, which is somewhere near the holidays in the last quarter of the year.
The Lost Treasures event starts in just a few days on Tuesday the 23rd, so if you want to take part and will be picking the game up on Switch then you may want to grab it on PC first. As a free to play game, it will cost you nothing and when the game launches on the handheld, you’ll be able to take everything you’ve earned, skins and all over with you! If you simply wait to play on Switch then you will likely miss out on the event and the potential to score some sweet, limited time items.
With the game coming to our handheld console, I think we can all agree that the Switch is showing how capable it really is for many of the experiences we enjoy. Ever since Nintendo changed their practices to open up to third party developers, we see that the console has a lot more value!
Will you be playing Apex Legends on the Switch? Here’s to hoping it’s upscaled while docked. We’ll be playing with the Nintendo Switch Pro controller! Let us know in the comments below.
